Just thanksgiving, Christmas is a time to spend with your family and then spend some time playing games with them with that special gaming glow. Sure it’s like any other day BUT it does really feel different and more memorable.
Another year has gone by, and it’s hard to believe that I’ve been this consistent with keeping up with my posts. Tons of games were played and I’ve built up a pretty solid game library. Now is the time to give family presents, I always give my brother video game related things, and he does the same. I think I got him a good gift this year. Tomorrow we’ll eat, play, and enjoy our time with the family. I’ve always played RTS’s in these times, and today and tomorrow will be no different, even if I haven’t played in so long that I suck. Traditions must be kept. Below is some of the things that in my opinion were important.
I had the chance to try out Virtual Reality, more specifically the PlayStation VR. It blew me away, Sitting inside a car in Driveclub felt just like the real thing. The immersion is breathtaking. Eagle Flight has you in control of… yea an eagle complete with beak. Flying through Paris is amazing. In Rigs you control a giant mech, with Call of Duty influences. Hopefully a real CoD inspired game is released. Virtual Reality is a very good thing for gaming, and I cannot wait to see where it takes us.
The announcement of the Nintendo Switch
So, Nintendo announced their newest system, the Nintendo Switch. Killing two birds with one stone, both a home console and a handheld one with amazing graphics. Nintendo supports their handhelds for years too so I don’t see it going away. There’s always a gimmick however and I don’t mind that, this console’s is that, as mentioned earlier, you can dock your system to play on your home television and if you want to leave you just un-dock it and it becomes a handheld system. That’s it, no big controller, nothing to keep major publishers from not wanting to publish on it, back to the basics.
Games in general
This was a good year for games, big names and small. The heavy hitters came out, Call of Duty, Battlefield 1. Games to some of my favorite franchises came out too, Mirror”s Edge – Catalyst. Also, there was no shortage of unique/indie games, which I absolutely love them. I’m sure 2017 will be a good year and I have a lot of catching up to do.
Enjoy your Christmas.
