Getting up to speed in Lore from World of Warcraft – Legion

Illidan – William King

Want to catch up on lore before World of Warcraft – Legion Hits? Here are a few books.

The books represented, do not need to be read in any specific order.

World of Warcraft – Chronicles

Chronicles is a book that goes all the way back, even before the races that inhabited Azeroth. A depth of 184 pages.

World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1 is a journey through an age of myth and legend, a time long before the Horde and the Alliance came to be. This definitive tome of Warcraft history reveals untold stories about the birth of the cosmos, the rise of ancient empires, and the forces that shaped the world of Azeroth and its people. I have yet to purchase it, so I can’t really comment on the quality but from reading what other people say. This is a top notch / production type of book.

War of the Ancients Trilogy

A total of 736 Pages total, these books are gigantic. They are very hard to find as well, book #1 sells for about 23$ or you can opt to get all three for fifty dollars. The trilogy takes place ten millennia before the first Warcraft games, during the Burning Legion’s first invasion of Azeroth. The storyline proceeds to expand the depth of the Night Elves past, and leads up to the Sundering of Kalimdor. Whilst this storyline was detailed in brief in the past, the trilogy involves time travel back to the past, causing the way events unfolded in this era of time to be changed permanently.

I love how much lore the game have, from comics, books, and now the movie which was pretty good. If you would like to know more about WoW, or information on specific characters, just visit: Warcraft Wiki

For reads besides books focusing on the Burning Legion. I recommend Arthas by Christie Golden. It focuses on Arthas’ boyhood to growing up and becoming an adult, It’s a great read. Lord of the Clans, also by Christie Golden was very, very good. Without spoiling as little as possible, it told the story of Thrall. How he was made to fight, amongst other things.

Blizzard has built an engaging, beautifully built world over the years, and they are continuously adding to it. The game is about twelve years old and it still seems to capture the attention of millions of people. Getting into stories, enhances the game so much. You will visit the places in the books via game and stand in awe as you realize what had happened there in the past.
